Gettin' Swissy

Time is zooming by, and I can't believe we have been here for almost 2 months! We really are loving it here, well, everything but the ridiculous prices, but we knew that coming in, so we can't complain too much. We have been trying to sort out some big ticket items such as buying a car, getting health insurance among other things. We are learning a lot about our new country, and it couldn't be more different from Germany. Here are some interesting tidbits about Basel and Switzerland:

Switzerland is the birthplace of fondu. They are crazy for it here and fondu pots are for sale everywhere.

It is compulsory for Swiss men to serve in the Swiss Military

There are many legends and myths for the country, a couple of my favorites are the Basilisk of Basel and Granity, a granite eating monster who helps tunnel through the Alps.

They are one of only two nations in the world with a square flag, the other is the Vatican.

Chocolate and watches

Women weren't given the right to vote in national elections until 1971 and the some communities didn't allow women to vote on their local issues until 1991 (insert face cringe)

Roger Federer is a God here and nicknamed the "King of the Alps"

Even though technically the Swiss speak German, it is far from Germany German. It is a happier, more sing-songy version.

There is a Yodeling club here and I am seriously considering signing Davy up in a few years. You can never start too young.

I could dip him in melted cheese and eat him up!

Cooler than cool

Don't let this cute face fool you, he is insane.

It seems like his eye color has turned towards hazel (like his dad) brown/gold around the pupil and the rest are blue/green

Happy kiddo
