Black: 1
Today is my first instalment of talking about the color black, and how I am utterly obsessed.
Today's study: Black in the Kitchen.
Recently I have began to wander outside of the world of the white kitchen, and I landed hard on its opposite.
Since moving, I have been trying to take over the cooking scene, my hutband is a master at just about everything and he prides himself on his cooking, but with him at work all day and me at home, I have been in charge of dinner for the first time since we married.
So... since I have spent more time in our little apartment kitchen this past week and a half than all of last year combined, I have begun to understand my needs in this space.
Warmth, warmth, warmth.... My needs are very clear, I am leaning towards a cozy sophistication space rather than spanking clean white surfaces. Don't get me wrong, I love white, black and white in particular, and white can exude warmth as well, but for me, I need a little more gusto, umph, or baboomness. Black can take any space from ordinary and instantly add an element of class and elegance...

Beige block
Our new appartment is covered from head to foot in beige. I'm not a fan, it is probably near the beginning of my "top ten colors that will never enter my houst list", but since this is a temporary residence I will deal.
Having been surrounded by this hue for a little over a week, I have had the idea of neutrals on my mind, and now that I have accepted that I am stuck with it for the next year or so, I should probably change my attitude. I have found that the word beige in itself has very negative conotations, I automatically think boring, or dull. So, from here on out beige will become camel or neutral.
So, for your viewing pleasure, I have have put together a list of images that reveal some of my neutral interest.
If I were to wear a neutral outfit, this would be it.
Or this...
If I were a neutral table setting...
or if I HAD to live in this neutral house...
A neutral painting to go in my neutral house, John Singer Sargent "Seascape" 1875...
I would shop for neutral stuff here...
Drool worthy neutral fabrics...
Neutral color palette...
Delightful neutral carpet...
I even had a neutral wedding...
All of these images are anything but dull or boring in my opinion, a good way to start my beige rehab.

I'm in trouble
It was a beautiful day here in Houston, the sun was shining, birds were singing, flowers blooming, but pretty weird for a girl from Wolf, Wyoming where the temperatures are regularly below zero this time of year.
Sounds like a pretty good way to spend the winter, right? Well being that girl from Wyoming makes me have a different sort of reaction to this weather. On my way to the store today I noticed that my AC was on full blast, I had to make sure each vent was pointing directly at me to prevent intense perspiration. I glanced down at the car thermometer and realized that it was only 72 degrees outside. God help me. Come summer, when it is 30 plus degrees warmer outside, look for me in any sort of pool, creek, pond, or in a dark closet with a fan pointing at my face; I'm in trouble.
So.... trying to enjoy this "cool spell" we spent most of the day at the dog park, the boys had a wonderful time as usual, playing fetch, exploring, and smelling dog butts. We met a rather obese Bassett hound named Romp, and an adorable white puppy named Macho, which was the albino bat from the cartoon "Anastasia" in the flesh, complete with pink ears. Here's one of the boys, having a grand ole time as usaul, Newton wouldn't stop making funny faces for the camera. After we returned home I did a significant amount of cleaning, funny, since we only got herer a week ago. Here are some pictures of our place looking dapper. Mind, we still need a couch, rug, etc.. I am trying to enjoy the simplicity of our things. And then there is this... Luckily, we were able to end the day with a delicous dinner. THANK YOU GRANDMA JUNE. For those of you who don't know, I am a devourerer (it's a word, I think) of french onion soup, it is my lot in life the find the best recipe: if it is on a menu, I order it - every time. So thank you Grandma June for the recipe to this tasty treat.

Moving is beyond stressful. But thanks to my wonderful husband and two cute pups, we are settling into our new home. Unpacking has been the fun part, especially since we haven't had all of our things in one place since last June. I enjoyed going through each box and smiling as I saw small treasures that make a house a home.
Here's to a new year, a new home, and a new beginning...
