Picture Update

It feels like we have been waiting for this move FOREVER... and now that we are getting down to the last couple of months, there doesn't seem to be enough time to get through the massive amount of things that need to be accomplished before our move date. We had a phone conversation with our realtor in Cologne this week, and it left us a little apprehensive. On top of finding a place that takes two large dogs, we also need to have a space with a kitchen (Germans take their entire kitchen when they move, even in rentals, weird huh?). Next we have to talk to an immigration expert, which is going to be important for me to know if and how I can continue with my art while abroad.

Between trips home, family weddings, our house hunting trip and moving our stuff, we only have a few more solid weeks in KC. I am trying to enjoy the calmness of everyday activities before the super stressful moving mindset sets in, so here are some "normal" things that are happening around here...

Number of infected dog paws: 4 (hence the socks)
Times spent in a flooded park bathroom during a tornado: 1
Start Date for Germany: Oct 1st
Gallons of homemade ice cream devoured: 1
Day of heat index over 110 degrees: Lost count
Shaved dogs: 1

Too Hot!

Nope, I don't do heat very well. I am a jeans and sweater kind of girl. Anything over 70 seems waaaayyy to warm. So when the heat index reaches 116, it's time for me to hunker down if front of the air conditioning. Since I have two dogs, this just isn't an option for the entire day. I mean, they have to poop somewhere, right? So since being out in the awful, sweltering weather is inevitable, I try to picture something nice and cool in my mind's eye. Any of these would do...

Stay cool my friends

Design Crush: Michelle Smith

Effortless class and style is something many people strive for, but few actually have. Michelle Smith is one of those people that's got it. Her Sag Harbor home is charm personified.

Home again

As soon as we returned from Germany, I made a mad dash for Wyoming, fueled by the "Holy-crap-we-are-actually-moving-to-Europe" feeling and the realization that I won't just be able to hop in the car and go home (even though it is a 15 hour drive). So that is precisely what I did. I spent a perfect two weeks surrounded by my family and the home I grew up in.
Though it is impossible to capture the overwhelming amount of beauty imbued in this place, it is not for lack of trying. I took over seven hundred photos (I'm weird, I know) so I will try to keep this brief:

I know I am home when...

this is my afternoon activity

this happens

when this smell wakes you up in the morning

When going for a walk around your neighborhood looks like this...

when this is the view from your front yard

When your neighbors look like this

and  this...

when this is my running path...

When this guy is this happy

Relaxing while someone else entertains your dogs...

When the dog park looks like this...

this

or this

And most importantly, When you get to hang out with people like this

Guten Tag

First trip to Germany is complete, and we accomplished our task of scouting out potential neighborhoods and villages to live in.... so I am going to skip the details and just get to it... a list of my observations from my first trip to Europe and my impressions on my future city:

Square Toilets
You can order butter as side
Cars can park on the sidewalk
I don't like sparkling water
Men in capris
Huge pigeons
Tiny gardens
Light turns yellow before it turns green
Cigarette smoke
Ice cream... everywhere
Where are all the fat people?
