Food Snob

There are many ideas I had about city life before we moved, and I am very much the wiser after a couple of months. I had the grand idea that there would be so many things easily accessable for entertainment, shopping, etc....though this idea isn't false, it has proven to be very inconvenient.
But my biggest pet peeve is the suprising lack of choice for grocery shopping. Now this may not be a big deal for some, but for my husband and I, it is an important part of our lives. Sharing conversation over a delicious meal is a highlight of our day.
Our choices for food shopping are Wal Mart and Kroger, both which have fallen short on a number of items, including cuts of meat, fresh breads, real brown sugar, goat cheese, egg noodles.... and the list goes on and on and on. . Other store options are on the opposite side of town (45 min plus). So even though we do have the option, they are usually very inconvenient. Living in the "city" has made life more difficult, even with a wide variety of choices.
So, I guess I am homesick, missing the small town vibe, being able have the conveince of knowing where everything is in our town and not having to spend extra hours traveling just to visit the grocery store. I dream of going to the local butcher for a cut of meat, the baker for bread, the sweet shop for desserts, the florist for flowers, the fish market for fish, and the farmers market for the veggies.... yep, a utopian shopping district where everything is fresh, and everyone takes pride in the quality of their shop's items...... not to mention the shops themselves would be beautiful. This isn't too much to expect, right? I love food, I love to cook, but I feel like I am missing out on a key part, the shopping,  so here are some images of places that I wish I could visit every week....

  1. Oh Anna, you made my day. :)
I think it's time you made your way over to Europe-although I fear we would never see you again!
